The MB has for the first time laid what they called their political platform. The platform would bar Christians and women from becoming president.
Well, it’s understandable why they barred Christians. Because, well, they’re Christians and the MB are stone-age xenophobic extremists. This we understand. Now why would they think women are incapable of becoming president? They said that the post carries religious and military duties that “contradict with her nature, social and other humanitarian roles.”
I am sure if this Egyptian woman was alive, she would have given the MB her middle finger. And this Israeli woman. And this German woman. And this British woman. And this Pakistani woman. And this Indian woman.
Poor women and religious minorities. They always bear the brunt of religious maniacs.
Merkel can’t rule.

Simon, would you kindly explain to us inferior beings just what it is that you mean?
Good post by the way, BP. Women can rule. Our own religious party claims that politics is too dirty and demeaning a business for women, but then again they have no plans to rule the country or change any core laws. In this, I am content.

Actually, I think Golda (we Israelis have a thing with a first name; you could gauge the depth of the animosity towards the current PM by the fact everyone calls him Olmert) was a pretty strong argument *against* women PM, were I looking for one.
She was always overcompensating for the fact that she was a woman (and one without a record in security issues to boot), to the point where she always gave in the most extreme hawks. She had a chance to avoid the Yom Kippur War; she intentionally blew it. That war is the thing most Israelis associate with her.

BP… thanks for the link to the Hatshepsut article. She’s one of my “ancient times” heroes :). The kind of towering ego this woman must have had, as well as the abject loyalty of her subjects, to manage to get herself recognized as pharaoh even after Thutmose III was old enough to assume the throne, must have been staggering. This is the kind of ego that can make for great leaders or horrific dicators, and Hatshepsut came down on the side of a great leader :).
